What are Orthodontics?
If you want to fix the functionality and cosmetic look of your smile, orthodontics could be just what you need. Retainers, braces, and clear aligners can fix a variety of problems such as overcrowding, gaps in teeth, jaw misalignments, overbites or underbites, and more.
Not only can these dental issues affect your oral health and function, but they can affect your overall confidence. Orthodontic treatments can straighten your teeth so you will feel happier and healthier. Contact us to learn more about how you can transform your smile today!
Types of Orthodontic Treatment
When it comes to straightening your smile and improving your alignment, DentArt offers several different treatment options. Scheduling a consultation will help determine which option is best for you based on your needs and the dentist’s recommendations.
Invisalign® is a popular option that we offer, which offers a more discrete orthodontic look. These are a series of clear plastic aligners that slowly and effectively align your teeth. They fit perfectly over your teeth and can be taken in and out for a more comfortable, yet equally effective, experience.
Retainers are typically used after orthodontic treatment in order to keep the alignment of the teeth. There are several different types of retainers available from acrylic trays similar to Invisalign® to ones with a metal wire. If worn properly, retainers ensure that the effects of orthodontic treatment will last a lifetime.
If a patient has a more complex alignment issue that needs to be solved such as a drastic overbite or underbite, they may need dental appliances such as headgear. While once bulky and noticeable, innovations in the field have allowed these appliances to be more comfortable and effective than ever. Patients can straighten their teeth and fix more severe issues without attention-demanding equipment.
DentArt also offers traditional metal braces, which have been used for over 100 years and are the most common method of alignment. Traditional braces consist of individual brackets made from either clear ceramic or metal, which are connected with a metal wire and rubber bands that push the teeth into alignment.

The Orthodontic Process
While the orthodontic journey and treatment time will look slightly different for every patient, every individual will first attend a consultation. They’ll receive a comprehensive oral exam to determine what treatment methods are best for them, and discuss goals and expectations. The patient will then receive custom aligners or get braces put on their teeth to begin their orthodontic journey.
Patients will come in every few weeks to have their progress monitored as well as to make subtle changes such as adjusting the wires and bands or receiving new aligner trays. When the results are achieved, the appliance will be removed and the patient will receive custom retainers and instructions for use in order to maintain their new beautiful smile.
